What to do in Hornocal
About me I am Armando Liques, a member of the Hornocal-Pueblo Omaguaca Native Community. I was born in Calete and grew up in a little house located in the ravine at the foot of the hill of 14 colors. My father and mother dedicated their whole lives to agriculture, they planted peas, beans, potatoes, they were among the first to plant carrots, my brothers and I helped them. When classes started, we would go down to Calete through a narrow and colorful ravine known as “El Angosto”. To attend high school, I had to move to Humahuaca, being able to return to my Hornocal only on vacation. I felt very sad every time I had to leave. I lived 20 years in Buenos Aires, there I learned the baker’s trade. When the original community of Hornocal began the procedures for its legal status, I met Dr. Eulogio Frites, father of indigenous law, I was the manager of the community in the city of fury. In 2005, I decided to return to my land, just arrived I dedicated myself to agriculture like my parents. He planted and sold peas, beans and potatoes, only to exchange for sugar, rice or flour. In […]

About me My name is Enrique Lamas, I am a beekeeper and farmer of Andean and agro-ecological crops. I was born in Hornocal, I grew up and lived a large part of my life in this place. I currently distribute my life between the communities of Hornocal and San Roque El Morado, as required by my family, my plants, animals and bees. I decided to undertake in Tourism because I see in this activity, the opportunity to have an income that contributes to my family economy. I like to meet and interact with people from other places, I also like to share my knowledge, I learned that as a representative of the communities, mainly in instances of cooperative work. I invite you to visit my land, to know and experience my work as a farmer of Andean and agroecological crops and to connect with an activity in which I have ventured with great love several years ago, beekeeping. The world of bees is a fascinating world that has allowed me, in addition to having an extra income, without requiring as much time as agriculture, to engage in multiple reflections and relationships with these wonderful beings. And it is my desire […]

We are 10 families from the original community of Hornocal, Omaguaca town who manage a viewpoint from which the colorful SERRANÍA DE HORNOCAL can be seen. How to get? The Mirador de la Serranía de Hornocal is located 25 km to the east of the city of Humahuaca, accessed by provincial route No. 73. The outward journey takes about an hour. The road on which it is circulated is a mountain road, dirt and quite winding, which ascends from 2,900 to 4,350 meters above sea level. It is heavily traveled by vehicles that go to the viewpoint and wild and domestic animals can be seen loose in adjacent areas. In the rainy season (December to March), it gets slippery. There are two important signposted stops: the panoramic view (4,200 m.s.m.n.m.), a place from where you have a beautiful and wide view of the creek, suitable for taking pictures and where there is cell phone signal; the apacheta at the tripartite point, a ritual space where travelers usually perform a small ceremony every time they pass by to ask that the trip go well.
