One of the must-see attractions in Valle Colorado is the experience with the town’s artisans, they are a consolidated group that carry out hand embroidery on different garments, the most characteristic of the Valles de Altura area are the rebozos, they are garments colorful embroidered with threads dyed in natural dyes, this work can take months since it is a unique neatness to see, the dyeing process is an experience that they were perfecting and it is today that they can market their already known and required garments in the textile market of the province and in the capital of our country. Currently they have set up a crafts center where they allow the weaving experience to be carried out on their looms and they display their crafts.

Apolinar Yurquina is my name, I am a local craftsman, passionate about my trade, with me you can enjoy and learn the beautiful art of ancestral pottery. Country life and crafts are our strength, our FLOR DE ALTEA group is made up of several artisans, among them: Petrona Luere, Elsa Calapeña, María Mamani, Micaela Canavide, Dalinda Zapana, Florinda Lurere, Maria Choque, Teofila Flores, Norma Nieva, Fabiola Calisaya, Silveria Choque, Geronima Figueroa, Sarai Figueroa. When we go out to the fields to work or to walk through the town we look at the flowers, especially during the summer, where the hills are filled with wild flowers and in the squares and gardens they bloom with their beautiful colors. Upon returning to our homes, we capture them between sheets of paper and then copy them into a notebook. Thus arises a design process of great delicacy. That drawing is then passed through fabric and the magic of embroidery begins. This interpretation center was inaugurated in 2018, it is a graphic and sensory representation of the CULTURAL HERITAGE, declared in 2014 by UNESCO, which crosses the town of Valle Colorado, this recognition seeks to convey the importance of history and culture from pre-Hispanic times (Inca and Pre-Inca) QHAPAQ ÑAN means Inca Trail in Quechua, the American language of the Andean region prior to the Spanish conquest. The Valle Colorado community is characterized by keeping this Inca heritage alive, it can be seen reflected in its crafts, especially its embroidery so characteristic of the area, its crops and lifestyles.

We are the Flor en Piedra group of artisans, made up of more than 10 families of artisans from the towns of Caspalá in the Valle Grande department of the Jujuy province. Our group is characterized by being made up of female embroiderer artisans, passionate about our work. We are all head of the family, our main breadwinner is livestock production (vaccine) and agriculture for family consumption. About more than sixty years ago the embroidery of flowers in shawls began to be made, at that time it was done with a wild cane needle, wild flowers that were observed in the fields were embroidered. Our shawls are the result of our culture, of our worldview, it is a heritage that we want to share with the tourists who visit us.
