The community of Palca de Aparzo proposes a tour of the bed of the Aparzo river in which you will be able to get acquainted with popular coplitas, names and medicinal uses of local plants, and with stories of mills and mills in an old hydraulic mill in the community.
Palqa or pallqa comes from Quechua and means “bifurcated”, “fork”. This community owes its name to being located at the confluence of the Aparzo and Varas rivers and has chosen to highlight and share with visitors this link and the importance of the river in the daily life of the people of Palqueños.
Location:
This circuit is located within the community of Palca de Aparzo, 54 km from the city of Humahuaca, at almost 4,000 meters above sea level. It is an obligatory place of passage towards the legendary Laguna de Leandro.
Circuit description:
Starting from the community room, we will walk the entrance street to the town, to the beach of the Aparzo river, we will walk along its bed identifying plant species typical of the region until we reach Quebrada Seca, we will rest at the foot of an old quarry and continue the journey to a old hydraulic mill. We will familiarize ourselves with its technology and uses and social issues
Difficulty degree:
Medium-Low. Although it is not a long and intense route. Some people may find limitations in that the walk takes place at more than 3,500 meters above sea level.

The activity can take place all year round. The rains usually happen, from December to March and it is not frequent that it rains during the day, however during these months the activity will be subject to rain.
According to the climate of the region, the recommended time to tour this circuit is:

From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from September to March.
